Sabine Meitzel is an independent trade development consultant, with rich and wide-ranging professional experience in capacity building for international trade, economic development, export promotion and technical cooperation with developing countries, with focus on fragile environments.

Through her consultancy horizon2030, Sabine Meitzel leads Aid-for-Trade projects on private sector development in fragile and conflict-affected environments, women’s economic empowerment, and youth in business and trade.

From 1985 to 2012, Sabine Meitzel was staff member of the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva, Switzerland, a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization for trade promotion and export development. Her positions included Trainer and Management Consultant for international marketing, Coordinator of the World Tr@de Net, Chief of ITC’s Business Advisory Services for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, and Advisor on Trade and the Millennium Development Goals in the Office of ITC’s Executive Director. These responsibilities equipped her with solid, hands-on project management experience as well as with strategic planning skills for international business development and Aid for Trade in over 40 countries across Asia and the Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

Prior to joining the ITC, Sabine Meitzel designed and conducted training programmes for UN accredited diplomats at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva, and was Assistant Lecturer at the University of Göttingen, Germany. As Lectrice at the Centre Régional de Documentation Pédagogique (CRDP) in Paris, she contributed to the curriculum development for French College teachers at the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research of France, and designed and conducted Executive Training and tailor-made in-company programmes for European private sector firms.

A German and Swiss national, Sabine Meitzel has solid and diversified field work experience for business and trade capacity building in Asia, Africa and Europe. She holds a Master in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Göttingen (Germany,1976), a Master in International Marketing from the Export Akademie in Reutlingen (Germany,1996) and an Executive MBA in International Management Consulting from the Universities of Lincolnshire & Humberside and Ludwigshafen (United Kingdom/Germany,1998).
